For whom are you making arrangements?

Under British Columbia provincial laws, only specific individuals are authorized to make funeral and cremation arrangements. We will quickly check to ensure you are the right person to make these cremation arrangements. If there is a Will, the executor or person listed with authority, or in the absence of a Will, the surviving spouse or close relative with authority, should complete these forms.

If you are assisting someone with paying for these arrangements, they should be the person to complete these next set of questions.

Please provide the full legal name as it were to appear on a birth certificate or passport.

Does the deceased have a Will?

In the Will, are you identified as the executor or another person authorized with authority to make funeral arrangements?

A search to find the Will must be performed on your part. If there is a Will, the executor or authorized person as stated in the Will must be the person to make the online arrangements.

The following are some ideas about where to look for someone's Will. Keep in mind that if you are not the executor named in the Will, you may have no right to see the Will. If it turns out that the executor named is already deceased, others may then become entitled to apply for probate or administration.

  • Check any safe deposit box
  • Check all filing cabinets and safes in the home
  • Call any lawyer or law firm that you think the deceased dealt with, even if it appears that his or her dealings were for unrelated matters like a house purchase
  • If you have a copy of the Will but not the original, look at the signatures on the last page to see who the witnesses were. Most often, one of the witnesses is a lawyer whom you can contact
  • Call any accountant that you believe the deceased might have worked with
  • Call any former spouse to get the name of any lawyer that might know of a Will
  • If the lawyer listed on a Will is retired, call the Law Society for your province or territory. You may be advised of the lawyer's phone number.
